The Call of the Wild”CANADIAN ELK CALLING CHAMPIONSHIPS Hall A is quiet now unlike the afternoon of March 16th when the sounds of the Wapiti reverberated throughout the hall.
These sounds were the finals of the “Canadian Elk Calling Championships” and what a final it was. Eight finalists were present vying for a part of the $8,000 in cash and prizes. The elk calling was fierce and the judges had their work cut out for them. When the elk calls fell silent and the dust settled, Shane Bonner of Calgary retained the title he won in 2013, but this time the margin was much closer and he knew it. Shane received a check for $1,500, the Champions Trophy and bragging rights for another year.
Second place and a check for $750 went to a much improved Corey Cook of Whitecourt, Alberta. Third place and a check for $500 went to a first time qualifier to the competition, Dan Indenbosch of Coalhurst, Alberta. WEF would like to thank all the competitors, both at the finals and at all the preliminary qualifying rounds. The Canadian Elk Calling Championships are presented by the Wild Elk Federation and brought to you by our major sponsor, the Canadian National Sportsman’s Shows and contributing sponsor’s, Majestic Swabbing, the Medicine Hat Fish and Game Association, Back Country Butchering.
